World History Twitter Template

Students will be creating three tweets on behalf of a famous person in history.  While we could be "real tweeters", some students do not have a Twitter account.  Because of this we modified a Twitter template that we found online for our purposes.

Students will create a copy of the template using an iPad which has a specific workflow.  Find the specific presentations below.

We feel that this learning opportunity helps students to practice being great communicators, critically thinkers all while creating good content.

RWT Timeline: Amazing Free iPad or Computer Tool

The Timeline App is a tremendously easy app (or website) to create timelines.  So many of the timeline apps are extremely expensive.  This app allows for three different options for organizing events:

• Date
• Time
• Event

A timeline that graphically represents related items or events in a sequential order and displayed along a line can be another method for students to "show what they know".

Exporting Options are as a JPG or as a PDF.  Collaboration is also possible as a "file" type .RWT can be emailed or Airdropped so that students can add their portions to the group timeline.

Been waiting for years!  Now students don't need to upload videos to YouTube.  We can stay in Google Drive!  So thankful!

Google Docs, Slides, Sheets Templates Workflow on iPads

The Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets apps provides some great TEMPLATES for students to create something that will "show what they know".  All of the screenshots in the presentation below are from the iPad app.  While this was the workflow I used for Lunch N' Learn, all of the same template options are found on a computer.

The presentation above was created on Keynote on my iPad.  I "made a copy" of it and sent it to my Google Drive.  If you are desiring students to make Keynote presentations, this is the workflow to get the presentation to a teacher.  As blogged about earlier, I really like Keynote on my iPad while presenting.

IMPORTANT: Teachers must have students turn in any assignment in Canvas that requires a Google Doc, Slide, or Sheet to be submitted as a "File Upload" through Safari and not simply a "Website URL".  See poster below.

Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets used to have a "research" area on each file to help with finding information while creating.  Google has changed that to "Explore".

All of the features are available on a computer or Chromebook.  Unfortunately, they are not available on an iPad at this time.  However, many educators continue to create lesson content on a laptop or computer, and these features may come in handy.

Lunch N' Learn Adobe Draw on iPad Through Keynote

Following copyright rules IS very important.  As a contributor to the world wide web, I have created and published over a thousand videos and written over a thousand blog posts.  I don't want people copying what I have spent time writing or creating and calling it their own.

In addition, students continue to create more and more as one example is that of students creating Spanish children's books.  Unfortunately, we can't share the books beyond our classroom walls, because we focused on the process and students used "any old image" from the web.  Of course, many are copyrighted by other creators.

At just the right time I caught a video from Tony Vincent at Learninginhand.com who demonstrated how he creates images using Adobe Draw on the iPad.  Personally, it was just the right tool I was looking for as I had wanted to create an image of myself for web purposes for a long time.  It might be hard to understand, but I'm not a GREAT artist.  It's not my strength!  The tutorial by Tony Vincent taught me how to create my own images.



It's with that information I created a number of images for use in a number of areas all of which can be found on www.clayreisler.com

Which brings me to the reason for the post.  I will be sharing the Adobe Draw app in our next Lunch N' Learn.



As a side note, I'm on a MacBook Air and am interested in learning and creating more with Keynote.  So many educators, including Sean Junkins, use Keynote to create many images.  My only hang up with Keynote was how to share it.  I'm so familiar with the sharing options for Google Slides that I could probably click all the right buttons with my eyes closed and get the presentations on my blog.  With a little research, I found that creating in Keynote and exporting the Keynote as a PPT to my Mac was the first step in getting it to Google.  The next step moved me to upload the PPT to Google Drive and, just like that, I had my Keynote sharable via Google Slides.  I was also able to insert Tony's YouTube video after the Keynote was in Google Slides.

After introducing this to teachers, our United States History Team introduced this tool to their students for use in a current project, Civil Rights Memorials.  A student stopped by the library today, and I helped her with using both Adobe Draw (which she uploaded to her Google Drive) and Google Draw to make the items below.  Look at the smile on her face!

Toontastic iPad App For Social Studies

Mr. Rodal, social studies teacher, wanted a "Show What You Know" tool so that students understand the process of resolving conflicts through conversation in an organized manner.

Many video tutorials exist for the Toontastic App


However, presenting a video to students may be too long or not personal.  I created a presentation using one of the 24 unique Google Slide templates from Slides Carnival.

In year two of this project and in the flex mod, students will be introduced to the idea in Lab 1 (60 minutes) on Monday.  Students will receive the printed words from the picture at the top of this blog along with a Toontastic Storyboard which was created in Google Docs and with Google Draw.  On Tuesday during small group (30 minutes) students will view the presentation on how the app works.  On Wednesday in Lab 2 (60 minutes) students will complete the Toontastic project and export the final movie to Google Drive and share it with their instructor using Canvas.

However, this process does NOT allow you to use them on an iPad.

My solution.

Using THIS GOOGLE FOLDER, all of the templates have been downloaded into this folder as a .PPTX.  Clicking on this FOLDER in the Safari web browser will allow for downloading the file.

Once the download has completed, A "Open In..." feature will be present so that it can be opened in the Google Slides app.

Once you have opened it in the Google Slides app, adding images and adjusting the text is easy.

Since using Adobe's Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash to create websites in 2008, I've wondered what the difference is between

• JPEG,
• GIF, Create one using Workflow:  Get App
• PNG
• TIFF
• RAW

TODAY! People use images ALL THE TIME!  Because the amount of images created, used, downloaded and emailed using tools such as Google Draw, Canva, Skitch, Explain Everything, PicCollage, iMovie, a person should really know the difference so that the correct image can be used at the correct time!

Finally, some clarification!

Age Of Reason Fantasy Draft in Social Studies

This is more than cool!


Our social studies teachers created a PRETTY cool video which introduced their "Age of Reason" content.

Mrs. Schartner, created a tremendous "digital workflow" to make this all happen!

• Used Google Draw to crop the pictures for the first and last "Draw" images. This allowed for editing of the NBA version.
• The entire group of images was placed into Google Slides on a computer.
• Screen Shots were taken of each of the slides while the Google Slides was open on an iPad.
• All images of people were saved on an iPad and everything was put into iMovie on the iPad
• The iPad was used because it had the music.  The Chicago Bulls theme song was added.
• Our football announcer, Mr. Nickerson (also a social studies teacher) was given a typed script.  His voice was recorded straight through.
• The audio of the announcer and the images was "matched up".
• Names and dates were added with the title options in iMovie
• The final product was exported to YouTube

I'm extremely proud of the workflow that Mrs. Schartner designed and implemented!
