Google Keep is another option in your Self Service store for staff and students to organize all types of notes.  It is also an alternative to Evernote which seems to be slowing down and becoming less user friendly.   It is a simpler option than Notability, but the features are worth "noting".  See what I did there?  Of course, you did!

Recordium: Integration Apps For The iPad

It is important to understand the tools that exist for efficient, effective, and engaging productivity by our students and staff utilizing the iPad.

This does not dismiss the importance and necessity of Google apps or Creation apps used on the iPad, but enhanced audio recordings can be created with ease while using the iPad.

Part two of our four part series of Integrating Apps for the iPad starts now.

Recordium for iPad is a powerful audio-recording app that lets a student/staff member

• highlight parts of speech while speech continues to be recorded
• tag portions of the speech
• drop a note exactly at the point of the speech while still hearing the lecture
• add an image exactly during the time of the speech that it's needed
• trimming tool of the speech to cut out unwanted parts
• Pause/Start feature that is seamless
• share the recording via Google Drive or email

Images of Recordium Options and example of Recordium projects.  (The projects in this folder are in a .CAF format which is only accessible by using the Recordium app.  As is shown below, changing the settings BEFORE recording can provide two options for listening without the app: MP4 & WAV.

Our student's first use in AP European History

• Must change recording settings to a WAV file PRIOR to recording
• Was able to upload to Google Drive to share with students, but they will be downloading it to their computer and must have QuckTime installed in order to listen
• Listen to the teacher's lecture - if an iPad exsits, the Google Drive "open in" option will allow for Recordium to be the option (Use Free Version)

Student Reaction

I personally used the Recordium app in Anatomy Class. My reflections:

• Easy pause/record when there was a break in the lecture
  
• Tags of "New To Me" and "Review" were SO HELPFUL when adding quick
  statements to audio 
• Loved that all annotations were placed directly where I placed them during recording
• Photo feature allowed me to zoom in to take a quality photo of the slide and that it was placed directly at the point in which the teacher provided the information
• I needed to have the microphone input greater than normal (image can be viewed here)
• I was in the back of the room and was able to pick up the audio of the teacher.

If all of the additional features are not needed from Recordium, consider Audio Memos Free.  However, some functions you will NOT get with this app.

IMPLEMENTATION:
As we move into the Flex Mod schedule, these apps would be PERFECT for large group instruction time.  Recording and annotating a lecture can lead to reviewing of that lecture during Personal Learning Time (PLT).

Age Of Reason Fantasy Draft in Social Studies

This is more than cool!


Our social studies teachers created a PRETTY cool video which introduced their "Age of Reason" content.

Mrs. Schartner, created a tremendous "digital workflow" to make this all happen!

• Used Google Draw to crop the pictures for the first and last "Draw" images. This allowed for editing of the NBA version.
• The entire group of images was placed into Google Slides on a computer.
• Screen Shots were taken of each of the slides while the Google Slides was open on an iPad.
• All images of people were saved on an iPad and everything was put into iMovie on the iPad
• The iPad was used because it had the music.  The Chicago Bulls theme song was added.
• Our football announcer, Mr. Nickerson (also a social studies teacher) was given a typed script.  His voice was recorded straight through.
• The audio of the announcer and the images was "matched up".
• Names and dates were added with the title options in iMovie
• The final product was exported to YouTube

I'm extremely proud of the workflow that Mrs. Schartner designed and implemented!

Chrome Audio Icon

So many times audio is leaving the speakers of our school computers.  Many times sites will "auto play" audio and you may not know what tab the audio is coming from!

Chrome Web Browsers have AUDIO ICONS that will appear on the tab that audio is playing on.

The image below has an AUDIO ICON toward the right of the tab.  The icon ONLY plays when audio is coming from a resource on that tab.

Movenote Add Video To A Google Drive Creation

Movenote is a quick way to add video/audio to a Google Drive document, including Docs, Presentations, & Spreadsheets.  The Movenote can be an iPad app as well.  Sharing options exist!

Simply find the Movenote app in the Chrome Store, connect to your Google Account, and start adding valuable content to your documents.  Need a teacher example?

Sound Cloud For 1920 Radio Spot

Simply Phenomenal!

Some of the social studies teachers, Mr. Krause, Mrs. McCumber, and Miss Wilcox wanted a tool to help record 1920 radio shows.  Students were to write a script which was derived through research on topics that were presented to the students.

Initially the teachers were going to use Audio Memo to record the radio spots and then upload them to Google Drive.  While the free version allows for recording, it does not allow for uploading to Google Drive.

I suggested SoundCloud as another alternative because I felt that the iPad app was quite user friendly, and I liked how all the radio spots were placed into one website type page.  Teachers created classroom accounts.  Since the free version only allows for 120 minutes of recording, teachers used Gmail accounts to create SoundCloud accounts based on class hours.  After the class hour, teachers changed the passwords to the class accounts.

We were also able to meet standard number 1 of our ITLS standards as it was a new digital creation.

Audio Memo and Google Drive

Audio Memo could be a viable option for recording voice only productions with students.  The real benefit of this (paid) app is the integration options with Google Drive.

On a side note, because this is a paid app and the free app only allows sharing via email, we have chosen to set up classroom accounts using soundcloud.com. This is a free option which allows for recording & uploading via the iPad app.  See/Hear example
