Chrome Audio Icon

So many times audio is leaving the speakers of our school computers.  Many times sites will "auto play" audio and you may not know what tab the audio is coming from!

Chrome Web Browsers have AUDIO ICONS that will appear on the tab that audio is playing on.

The image below has an AUDIO ICON toward the right of the tab.  The icon ONLY plays when audio is coming from a resource on that tab.

Mystery Solved.

Google Chrome's Three Little Lines

Google Chrome is a wonderful tool to surf the web, especially if your school uses Google Apps For Education.

Our school district does!

Therefore learning about what's behind "Three Little Lines" can help you become more efficient by utilizing tools that aide in completing tasks!

Normally, I like to create video tutorials that last two to three minutes.  This one lasted slightly over six minutes, but is well worth the view to learn all that the "three little lines" offer!

In addition, Google provides a Choose Your Account option.  Consider this if you would share a "non public" computer with your family or have multiple Google accounts (one professional, one personal) that you you want simultaneous access to during the day.

Evernote With Students

After a Lunch N' Learn about the Whys of Evernote, Miss Tubbs decided that Evernote would be the best tool for collecting and organizing resources for a problem solution paper.

It was important to have students acquire the correct tools in the correct order.

Google Sites - Forms - Blogs - Twitter - Personal Econ

Today we concluded our week long personal economics unit and may I say it was exhausting, but outstanding! We created an entire city using Google sites.  All items students needed to complete were completed through Google Forms.  Students discussed their experience by using Twitter and Google Blogs.

We communicated each day's agenda by sending an email to all students.

BOTTOM LINE: We couldn't have done it without iPads, desktops, laptops, Google tools, and Twitter.  It was our largest problem based task to date.

*some material will not be accessible as we made them only available to our domain.  If you truly want the forms and other things, leave a comment with your contact information!

Video and Backchanneling

Playing a video is always a risky endeavor.  Will the students pay attention; will they find it interesting?

The answer to these questions is YES, when using backchanneling.

In my future, the backchanneling of videos using Today's Meet will be more productive iPad 2's.
I have developed a way to use Google Chrome's Incognito Window to show two screens (video and conversation) at the same time. (See video below)  I also used Safeshare.tv as the method of showing the video.  It is my hope that next year, I will be able to individualize the viewing of video clips using iTunes podcasts or options of videos that I create and upload so that students can have a conversations such as this...

Student #1, "In my video, this is stated..."
Student #2, "In my video, this is explained..."

Obviously, this is in the infancy of being efficient using an iPad 2, but my planning continues...
