SMART Notebook Express

Numerous SMART Notebook files, inter activities, review games, and presentations are created by teachers on a daily basis.  Some of these could be used by students during personal learning time (homework) for further understanding of concepts.

One option for students to view SMART Notebook information is via an exported PDF copy that teachers email or place on a digital management tool.  While the information from the SMART Notebook file is viewable no inter activity between movable objects or links to pages within the file will work.

SMART Notebook New & Review

SMART boards with SMART notebook is a technology tool that all of our teachers have in their educational setting.

Updates that could be helpful for teachers when planning and presenting educational lessons are below.

View The Converted SMART file to PowerPoint

Remember, any SMART Notebook file can be shared with others if uploaded as a SMART file to Google Drive.

Combine the downloaded file with the free Notebook Express tool will allow users to view and manipulate any part of the file from any computer.  This could be a tremendous help in allowing students to review classroom material.
As we move into the Flex Mod schedule in the fall of 2015, this may be beneficial in sharing important classroom content information.

Lunch N' Learn: Rethinking Slides

Today's Lunch N' Learn focused on how to rethink SMARTboard slides and PowerPoint Slides.  Last week, we looked at how to rethink slides that are in front of students.  This week, two teachers have graciously provided one SMARTboard document and one PowerPoint presentation that we take a look.  Our goal is to rethink how the slides and presentation may appear.

PowerPoint:
Allows for Presenter View that looks like this:
What Your Audience Sees

What The Presenter Sees

SMARTboard For Quiz Bowl AP Psychology Review Activity

Mrs. Krause asked if I knew of a technology tool for helping with a review activity for AP Psychology.  After some thinking, I realized the interactive part of the SMARTboard would be a perfect fit for a "first person to touch an object would get to answer the question" activity.

While the classroom teacher developed the questions, I created a file that would allow different animal sounds to be made when a student touched the SMARTboard.  If the sounds did not work, a "flipper" slide was created.

Even high school students were "into it" by trying to be the first to touch the board and answer the questions!  As Mrs. Krause stated, "It was a fun way to start class!"

If You're Absent From Your Classroom, Consider...

Being a teacher has many unique aspects none greater than providing directions for a substitute teacher.  Whether it is an all day sub or for just one hour, providing a short video to make it as if a teacher is present in the classroom, continues learning despite the circumstances.

There are two ways that video can be utilized.
Yesterday, Mrs. Stainton traveled on a field trip with some students from one of her classes on a field trip.  However, some of her students from a different class were still in the classroom.  Her efforts allowed the continuation of learning through an explanation of the lab that the students were about to experience.  The video was uploaded to YouTube, because YouTube provides a platform that can be played across multiple devices.

She used the SMART video recorder.

After it was uploaded, the YouTube link was shared with the in-house substitute teachers through email.  The substitute teacher appreciated the ease of use, because they played the video to the students.  After watching, the students proceeded to complete the lab experiment.

While this does require some additional prep on behalf of the teacher, it truly provides seamless learning atmospheres within the classroom despite the lack of physical presence by the classroom teacher.
