Educreations For Individual Tutoring

Mrs. Whitens has discovered Educreations for creating mathematical lessons specifically pertaining to her classroom content.  As she states, "It (Educreations) frees up my time to work with more than one student on an individual basis at a time."

A site was created by Mrs. Whitens to provide step by step directions for completing math processes.  However, other people's creations don't always meet the exact needs that need to be met in classrooms.  Having teachers create their own "screencasts" allows for specific directed details to be broadcast to the students.

The beauty of this is that students who understand the material can move at their pace.  While students who don't understand the concepts can still go at their pace, but with additional support from the instructor.

Educreations was chosen because at the current time, YouTube is blocked at our school.  Educreations allows for quick recording on an iPad and hosting on their server.

Impact On Students:
Critical Thinking:  Students have an individual tutor with them via a screencast.  This focuses students to think about the process of completion of a task while following directions from an instructor.  They are also encouraged to seek assistance when questions or clarification is needed pertaining to a concept.

Movenote To Invite Teachers For E-Mentoring Program

MOVENOTE UPDATE: A Google Extension (app) is available.

Our middle school counselor, Nicole Gerth, wanted a tool that would provide information and a personal touch when inviting staff to become involved in our E-Mentoring program.  In the past an email was sent out with a presentation.  With the inclusion of a recorded video and the presentation, a personal touch was provided!

Impact On Students:

Creativity:  Students can create written scripts which would force them to limit the words on the slide and increase the context of spoken word.  The creativity can also be encouraged through the video shot that would take place and the visualization of the presentation.

Citizenship: As Movenote would like to be interactive, replies are available.  Students need to focus on constructive replies that will be available on the world wide web forever.

Critical Thinking: Students and staff need to concentrate on the flow of the presenation and the words that correspond with the presentation.  Many times we hear people say, "I know what I am doing, but I just don't know how to explain it."  Critical thinking skills are need to explain the information.

Weather Forecast Using The French Language

Mrs. Nickels, our high school French teacher, was looking for her students to take the knowledge of the geography of France along with the vocabulary that they have learned for expressing weather and blend them together.

She chose the real task of providing a weather forecast as the concept combined with the digital tool of the student's choice.
