Apple Core - Resonate: Ignite Passion Through Better Presentations

I have studied Nancy Duarte's work and read a number of her books.
I love what she talks about.  As an educator, I have been on a quest to inform and challenge teachers to create better presentations since 2013.

I was blessed with the opportunity to teach sixteen teachers from our district on elements of better presentations.
  • The Reason For Better Presentations (Slide 7)
  • The Glance Test (Slide 11)
  • The Delivery (Slide 36)
  • The Goal (Slide 54)

Within the presentation, teachers were asked to perform a "Glance Test" and "Delivery" evaluation of past presentations.  The top of the document has been reduced from an original by Nancy Duarte to one that teachers can use.  I also added a checklist for evaluating the delivery portion of a speech.

I also incorporated Flipgrid to gain feedback from teachers after the session.  Teachers were asked to choose either the "Glance Test" or the "Delivery" to reflect on and then the "Goal".  The goal of creating three presentation throughout the year that incorporate the "Best Of" everything that we talked about is the expectation.

We will be meeting again in one month to see an "old presentation" and how the "new presentation incorporates many of the ideas discussed during Resonate: Ignite Passion Through Better Presentations.

Raider Strong Podcast: Workflow That Makes It Happen

I finally understood and completed the entire workflow for creating and producing a podcast to iTunes!

I made the intro and exit music in Garage Band on the iPad. (Starter Book) I made the art work in Canva on the iPad.  I recorded the actual interview on the iPad.  I uploaded it to Google Drive where it can be produced into an MP3 on the iPad.

Here's where the entire process on the iPad could stop and people could listen to it via the Google Drive Folder.

However, that's not officially podcasting.  I needed to get it to a host, I chose Soundcloud for now as it allows three hours of free hosting.  See the product.  After that, I connected with iTunes Connect. This is the official "housing" area of all iTunes podcast accounts.  I used my iTunes account, completed all of the information, and waited 24 hours for Apple to approve.  Now, you can find my podcasts on iTunes OFFICIALLY!

UPDATE:  Once the Soundcloud app is installed, use the Garage Band's "sharrow" to produce the podcast directly to Soundcloud.  No computer needed.

MY GOAL: Interview as many Raider Strong employees as possible which will help promote the GREAT people that work in our district.

RELATING TO STUDENTS' LEARNING EXPERIENCE:
After conferences with Ms. Thut, we created the beginnings of how it looks for students.  Our students will focus on:
  • Consuming quality content using Environmental podcasts found on iTunes
  • Critically think about what makes an exemplary podcast both from a technical stand point and content stand point.
  • Collaborate with experts on YouTube or in the community to develop a passion for an environmental issue that is important to them.
  • Create a series of three podcasts that directly relate to the environmental issue that they want others to know about.
While all of the creation can and will be done on an iPad.  Our students will spend time in the library downloading their podcast from Google Drive and then back up to Soundcloud. We will also use their Pulaski iTunes account to establish an official Podcast account.

I'm thrilled at the final results and can't wait for our students to experience the thrill of podcasting!

UPDATE: [June 2, 2017] Students really did a great job, and had fun doing it! They created unique "entry music" to their podcasts along with rich content.

UPDATE: [February 1, 2018] teacher asked for no frills step by step directions.  Read Them

Some of them can be found HERE.
All of them can be found HERE if the permissions are correct.

Me and My edCampMKE 2014

Milwaukee: Home of the Brewers, Bucks, B__r (family friendly blog), and a great edCamp.

Saturday found four teachers from Pulaski attending a very well run edCamp.  I attended three group learning sessions and one individual learning session.

Prior to the edCamp Milwaukee beginning, connecting and reconnecting with extraordinary educators is the name of the game.  I talked with people I knew
@g5changeagent21 @MrsGeeLMS  @amyuelmen

@sjgorman

and people I had never met before.

These people were just some of the people added to my PLN.

Before an edCamp starts, sessions of learning need to be suggested.  A 2014 schedule needs to be built! I suggested "This Works For Me!" A #friendlysmackdown among technology integrators and tech coaches as to what awesome strategies are used to move the first year or 35th year teacher forward in effeciently integrating technology in the classroom.

My Session 1: Curriculum Development - Move Over Businesses
My #MVP - Most Valuable Point
The content you create on school time and or with school equipment is the property of the school district.

My Session 2: "This Works For Me!" Tech Integrators Friendly Smackdown
My #MVP - Most Valuable Point
I want to create professional development through a Google Hangout at least twice during the summer!  I would also like to have Patio PD, a time where educators travel to someone's house to to enjoy burgers and dogs while the sun is setting and a fire pit is stirring.  Throw in new tech tools for engaging learning and teachers walk away with a new sense of energy and enthusiasm for learning!
The Smackdowns Idea Wall

My Session 3:  Google Apps - Streamline Workflow
My #MVP - Most Valuable Point
I really liked the Google Scrips that these two teachers created to improve classroom management.  I am going to share "Big Brother" with our staff at the beginning of next year as a way to manage student assignments.  The color coding and multiple sheets of data can help with student accountability.

My Session 4:  Individual Learning Opportunity
My #MVP - Most Valuable Point
During my session 2, I met Tim Morten, tech integrator in the Sun Prairie School District.  Session 2 created a positive experience for him as he wears many hats in his district.  I really enjoyed talking with him and discovered that he could use my Top Tech Tool infographic.  Once I shared that with him, he shared a Google form that he is using when designing lessons with teachers.  He made the Google form create a Google Document that is complete with information that allows for easy understanding of the lesson and its objectives.  (I will let Tim share it out when he is ready)  I will use it as it is awesome!

edCampMKE was a fantastic day of learning for me!  I loved learning something new and immersing myself with powerful educators who are chaning the world!

Pulaski New Website: Fine Tune Settings

Our district site is new and running!  It's fantastic.  Some helpful hints below may help in making the transition easy and efficient for you!

View Clearing Browser History           Read Clearing Browser History

Once the browsing history is cleared, the home page for staff while logged into a school computer can be accessed by click the "home button".

The "Employee Intranet" is an internal portal with a collection of resources only available to a group of people.  Since it is restricted, you will need to use your Pulaski Google Account to view.

You can access this from any computer using: http://www.pulaskischools.org/intranet/  If you are not logged into a Pulaski Google Account, you will be prompted for your Pulaski credentials.

Need to change your Pulaski profile?
You may have noticed that you are not on the "Teacher's Websites"

Need to access school Gmail on your iPhone/iPad? View Directions
Need specific school alerts sent to your phone? View Directions
Do you still have information on your CMS4schools site that students need?  Please contact Ken at technology for details on how to view and send that information to your students.  You could also view these directions to understand what needs to be done before June 30.  Remember, you have until June 30.  After that, the information on CMS for schools will be no longer accessible.

Any other questions, please ask via email!
