Print YouTube Video Scripts

I learned about Printing YouTube video clips from SLATE!

The directions are easy.

The result lands in your Google Drive or on paper.

Impact On Students:
Critical Thinking:  Teachers print the YouTube video out or create it digitally.  Students write a reflection to summarize their learning or pull out video elements.

United Streaming and Opposing Views

Informational Text for the Common Core State Standards can be printed text but doesn't always need to be.  Opposing Viewpoints is a great resource for printed text in various forms, while Discovery Education is a great resource for visual informational resources.  See what both of them bring to your classroom.
  • Both resources work great on laptops, Chromebooks and iPads through the Chrome browser.  This would work especially if the teacher is projecting a video they have on their account.  A challenge does occur when a teacher would like students to watch the video with a log in.
  • Paid version of Discovery Education app is available on the iPad
  • All resources look great on a projected screen

Google Groups For Informational Text Discussion

Mr. Anderson, Anatomy Teacher at PHS, wanted a means for online discussions of informational text.  The Google Groups has a number of great features that allows it to not distract learning, but only to enhance it.
  • Usable on the iPad in Google Chrome
  • Chromebook & Laptop User Friendly
  • No need for additional username & password as we are a Google Apps For Education school
  • Threaded conversation allows for quick replies to students or teacher
  • Able to upload documents (informational text) for analyzing

Informational Text Why, Resources, and Administration Using Video

Teacher Collaboration day consisted of fifteen minutes of the why informational text should be implemented throughout the content areas.  We also provided teachers with resources and methods for saving resources.

It was also the first time that our administrative staff conducted one minute videos to provide information to staff instead of meeting as a large group.

Informational Text Resources

Embraced By Words
Embraced by Words

Many resources have been discovered over the last few months.  I will be sharing the following resources with teachers tomorrow.

Thoughts Before The Resources:
  • You find a great article, you give it to students, they don't read it because they know the teacher will give them everything they need to know from the article.  Determine a new way to allow students time to gather the important information from the text.
  • Pose a real life, driving question that can allow students to pull the needed information from the text
  • Allow students to state the questions that they have from the text that could enhance the driving question or providing them a purpose to find more text to answer the questions.

Trading Cards iPad App In US History

Through this blog post, I learned about the Trading Cards app. It is a fantastic app for so many content areas.  The great thing about being a technology integration specialist is that I can find resources and share them with so many people.  Immediately after learning about the app, I contacted one of our U.S. History teachers in our high school. We quickly established how the app would be integrated and moved forward.

See app tutorial:
